About The Programme
The Plymouth Patriots Youth Development Teams are the club's competitive pathway for players aged 10 to 18, bridging our community sessions and the Patriots Basketball Academy. Players train and compete across nine age-grouped teams, progressing through regional leagues, Basketball England regional competition and the National Basketball League (NBL) as their ability develops.

Development squads typically train once or twice per week in structured, coach-led sessions focused on fundamentals, tactical understanding and physical development, with our National League (NBL) squads training more frequently to prepare for weekend fixtures. Match schedules run alongside training throughout the season, giving every player regular competitive game time.
Competition Pathway
Teams compete at three tiers depending on age and ability: Regional League (P&D) squads play in development-focused regional competition with regular game time; Regional League (BE) squads compete in official Basketball England regional leagues; and our National League (NBL) squads face the strongest junior teams from across the country in the National Basketball League. Players progress between tiers as they develop, with our strongest U18s moving into the Patriots Basketball Academy programme.
Coaching & Safeguarding
Every Youth Development team is led by qualified, DBS-checked coaches working through the Basketball England coaching pathway. All coaching staff follow Basketball England's safeguarding standards, ensuring a safe, positive environment for every player to develop both on and off the court.
