PAUL JAMES

Following a legendary career at the professional level of British Basketball that saw him win 500+ games and 9 titles over a 28 year tenure as a Head Coach, Director of Basketball Paul James now looks to bring his vast wealth of knowledge and experience to young and aspiring athletes across Devon, Cornwall and the wider Southwest.

Now retired from his acclaimed career at professional and international level, Coach Paul James now leads our Academy and U18 National League programmes from strength to strength, most recently extending his many achievements to include leading the Patriots Academy programme to the AOC 2 Division Title in the 2024/2025 season.

Now into his second year leading the Patriots Academy programme, Coach Paul James seeks to continue building the Patriots Basketball programme into one of excellence, and provide young people across the Southwest with access to opportunities both through and within the sport of Basketball.

With over a decade of elite junior coaching experience, having most recently gained title winning experience at as a Head Coach at senior university level, as well as a year of experience serving as an assistant to Coach Paul James at professional level, Head of Engagement & Performance Doug Llewellin brings international experience and title winning pedigree to the Patriots Basketball programme.

Following the completion of his Masters Degree in High Performance Coaching, he continues to drive the standard of Basketball in the Southwest forward; actively representing his country at international level as Assistant Coach for the Wales U17 National Team, whilst serving as Head Coach for our U16 National League teams, and assisting Coach Paul James with the Patriots Basketball Academy programme.
