Academy open AoC season with commanding win over Exeter College

Plymouth Patriots Basketball Academy began their AoC Sport South West League A campaign in emphatic style, beating Exeter College 2 by 94 points to 49 at home on Wednesday afternoon.

The Academy, who start the season as back-to-back AoC division champions, set the tone early and never looked back. The 45-point winning margin puts them top of the league table on points difference after the opening round, level on three points with Exeter College 1, St David’s Catholic College and Richard Huish College.

It is an encouraging start for a squad that balances full-time study with a demanding performance programme. The Academy runs in partnership with Tor Bridge High School, giving post-16 student athletes the opportunity to train and compete at a high level while completing their education.

The programme is led by Director of Basketball Paul James, supported by Head of Engagement and Performance Doug Llewellin.

Attention now turns to a home fixture against Richard Huish College on Wednesday 7 October, one of the three other sides to win their opening game. The Academy then travel to South Gloucestershire and Stroud College on 14 October before hosting UCS College Group on 21 October.

Every Academy result, fixture and the full league table can be followed in the Results and Standings section of the club website.
