National League season under way for Patriots squads

Gameday: National League fixtures this weekend Week 1 final scores

Plymouth Patriots have four teams competing in the Basketball England National Basketball League this season, and a busy weekend lies ahead, with three home games at Marjon Sport and Health Centre on Sunday.

The club enters Under 14 Boys, Under 18 Men and two Under 16 Boys squads in the South West divisions, giving players from across Plymouth and the surrounding area the chance to test themselves against the strongest junior programmes in the region.

The opening fortnight has been a demanding one. Under 18 Men were beaten 58-46 away to Plymouth Basketball on 19 September, and Under 16 Boys I went down 61-53 at Exeter Spartans on the same day. On 20 September, Under 14 Boys lost 85-47 to Cornwall Saracens at Marjon. These are young squads in the early weeks of a long season, and the coaching staff are focused on steady improvement from game to game.

Head of Engagement and Performance Doug Llewellin leads the Under 16 National League programme, while Director of Basketball Paul James oversees the Under 18 squad.

Under 14 Boys travel to Bristol Storm on Saturday 26 September, with a 12:15 tip-off at St Mary Redcliffe and Temple School. On Sunday 27 September, Marjon hosts three games: Under 16 Boys II open their season against Cornwall Saracens at 11:15, Under 16 Boys I face North Somerset Stars at 13:15, and Under 18 Men take on Cornwall Saracens at 15:15.

The club's younger age groups begin their Plymouth and District fixtures in October.

Supporters are welcome at Marjon on Sunday. Results, fixtures and league tables for every team are in the Results and Standings section of the club website.
